Teenager Uses Flare Gun in Chelyabinsk School Attack in Russia
Officials reported that the student had also brought a plastic crossbow and pepper spray to school. He discharged the flare gun, injuring a classmate, and then leapt from a recreation area window on the fourth floor, sustaining injuries himself.
“The injured are receiving all necessary medical assistance as law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack,” authorities said. The regional Health Ministry added that both children are under observation, with their conditions not considered life-threatening.
The school principal told reporters that the safety of other students and staff was never at risk. The afternoon session was canceled, and classes are scheduled to resume as normal on Friday. Psychologists are assisting students affected by the incident, and all children were safely returned to their parents.
Bullying may have contributed to the attack, according to one of the shooter’s classmates, who described the student as quiet, friendless, and not involved in conflicts. The classmate also reported that a homemade firecracker was found on the classroom floor after the incident, along with unexplained reddish stains.
