House Fire Leaves Five Dead in Russia's Yakutia Region

(MENAFN) A devastating overnight blaze in Russia's Yakutia region claimed five lives, including three children, authorities confirmed Wednesday, marking one of the deadliest residential fires in the area this year.

The regional office of Russia's Emergencies Ministry reported the tragedy, stating the inferno caused extensive structural damage to the residence before emergency crews could contain it.

Ten firefighters were dispatched to the scene to combat the flames and conduct rescue operations amid challenging conditions.

"According to operational services, five people, including children, died as a result of the fire. Two people, including one child, were taken to a medical facility," the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Sakha stated in an official release.

Two survivors, including one child, sustained injuries and received emergency transport to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Their current conditions remain under medical evaluation.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation point to a short circuit in the electrical wiring as the likely ignition source. Investigators continue examining the scene to determine whether building code violations or faulty electrical installations contributed to the rapid spread of the fire that prevented occupants from escaping safely.
