Overnight Russian airstrike kills at least two people in Kyiv
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service said in a Telegram statement that a four-story medical facility in the Obolonskyi district was hit, causing a fire that was later brought under control.
“During the inspection of the premises, a human body was discovered. Twenty-five people were evacuated, three people were injured,” the statement added.
Kyiv region governor Mykola Kalashnik confirmed that strikes also targeted energy infrastructure, leaving the city of Slavutych temporarily without power. “Almost 8,500 families are without electricity. Energy workers are already working on restoration,” he said. Kalashnik earlier reported one death in the region’s Fastiv district due to the attacks.
Prior to the strikes, the Kyiv City Military Administration had warned residents of approaching drones and urged them to remain in shelters.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, posting on a US-based social media platform, stressed the ongoing need for international support, saying: “It is crucial that our partners never forget: air defense is needed every day; funding for the production of interceptor drones is needed every day; equipment for the energy sector is needed every day.” He added that Ukraine would be coordinating with European and American partners during the week to “ensure that Ukraine has the assistance it needs.”
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that its air defenses shot down 137 of 165 drones launched by Russia overnight. Russia has not commented on these claims, though its Defense Ministry said Ukraine had launched 44 drones toward Russian territory between 8 pm local time Sunday and 7 am Monday, with nine of them reportedly intercepted over Moscow and its surrounding region.
