Russian Official Succumbs to Injuries After Ukrainian Drone Strike
Saldo expressed his condolences to the family of Vladimir Leontiev, highlighting that he was held in high regard throughout Russia’s Kherson Region.
“Vladimir Pavlovich Leontiev has died in hospital from his injuries. Doctors fought until the very end, but they could not save him,” Saldo stated.
The 61-year-old Leontiev was hurt on Wednesday morning when a Ukrainian drone, identified as ‘Baba Yaga,’ targeted the city.
Reports from media outlets, citing the governor’s press office, indicated that the UAV hunting Leontiev struck him in the back before he could find shelter.
He suffered a blast injury and severe spinal trauma. Two female civilians were also reported injured during the event.
Saldo emphasized that Leontiev had long led the administration of Novaya Kakhovka and was well recognized in the Kherson Region.
He described him as “an honest, principled man, open to people” and referred to him as “a true patriot who loved Russia and Kherson.”
The governor also acknowledged Leontiev’s early support for the United Russia party in the area.
According to reports from Russian media, the attack that resulted in Leontiev’s death was part of a wider series of offensives conducted by Ukrainian forces against settlements in the Kherson Region.
Officials stated that within the last 24 hours, Ukrainian artillery and drones had carried out 68 strikes across 13 inhabited locations in the region.
