Officer Suffers Injury in Knife Assault in Russia

(MENAFN) A law enforcement officer suffered grave wounds during a stabbing incident on Friday in the southern Russian city of Nalchik, as per statements from regional officials. Nalchik is situated within Kabardino-Balkaria, a region predominantly populated by Muslims.

According to reports, the violent episode unfolded in the heart of the city during the evening.

Officers discharged their weapons at the assailants, who were armed with knives, fatally striking one of them immediately.

The other suspect initially escaped but was soon apprehended by authorities.

Officials refrained from disclosing any details regarding the attackers’ identities and noted that the circumstances behind the event remain under inquiry.

Kazbek Kokov, the regional leader of Kabardino-Balkaria, confirmed the incident.

He referred to only one perpetrator and stated that the individual had been “neutralized.”

The wounded officer was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition, according to a news agency, which cited regional emergency personnel.
